Sapientia University lauches new degree programs for folk dance artists and dance instructors

In the fall of 2019 the Faculty of Sciences and Arts in Cluj-Napoca will launch a new first-cycle degree program for folk dancer artists and dance instructors in partnership with the Hungarian Dance Academy (Magyar Táncművészeti Egyetem) and the Hungarian Heritage House (Hagyományok Háza). Simultaneously, a special training course will also be available for professional dancers of folk dance ensembles based in Transylvania.

Since five Hungarian folk dance ensembles are currently functioning in Romania, providing adequate education for upcoming generations of folk dance artists is very important. Experience has shown that qualified folk dance instructors are also continuously needed to teach folk dance in schools of the region. These were the main reasons behind the decision of Sapientia University to launch this first-cycle degree program at the Faculty of Sciences and Arts in Cluj-Napoca. Although temporary authorization is a currently ongoing process, the management board of the university is hoping to welcome the firsts students enrolled at this program in the fall of 2019.

By launching this program Sapientia University offers to anyone passionate about traditional folk dance a unique opportunity to receive a university degree and practice this profession. Students will possess competent and high-level theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with the possibility to be employed as folk dance artists or folk dance instructors after graduation.

Simultaneously with the three-year degree program Sapientia University will also launch a special training program for professional folk dance artists, who by completing this course will receive a certificate issued by the Hungarian Dance Academy.
